mainly between half-timbered houses is called “Traufgasse” (eaves alley???). In our area of Germany we call it a “Winkel”, perhaps you could translate it with “nook”. Sometimes this “nook” is closed with a door.
Great doors/gates and interesting information. I’ve only ever seen these in one place – an area of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania known as the Mexican War District. I like the way people make them unique, but I wonder if there has to be agreement.
