The Colonia Guell was founded in 1890 on the initiative of the business man Eusebio Guell. Intending to improve the social conditions of his workforce, Güell commissioned various architects to build various facilities, entrusting Antoni Gaudí with the construction of a church. Although unfinished, the church is considered a highlight of Gaudí’s work. Here he introduced for the first time all the architectural elements that he would later use at the Sagrada Familia. Only the lower nave is completed, which is why the church is often referred to as a crypt.
